waterI just have to share this story. I was swimming in the pool today, when two little girls started to take turns baptizing each other, over and over. They would hold up their hands and announce:

“In the name of the priesthood, I baptize you, in the name of the father, son and holy ghost. Now your gonna get dunked!”

This went on for a little while until their grandmother noticed them. She was off her lounge chair like a bat out of hell! She yanked them out of the pool and yelled at them, “Don’t you ever play sacred games again!” Girls can never, ever baptize anyone and don’t you forget it!” The little girls looked very contrite until grannie turned her back and they just giggled and giggled. I got such a kick out of their antics!

Question: Has anyone out there ever played a “sacred game” in childhood? I don’t think I ever did.

This is hysterical. And no, I don’t think I ever played “sacred games” as a child…. unless playing “doctor” with my cousins counts.

I’ve played some “heaveny games” but definately not sacred!

Are my twenties considered part of my childhood? My ex and I in our early twenties (he was my old missionary companion from Italy) got really good at re-enacting the entire temple ceremony for our curious non-Mormon cocktail friends. Quite sacriligious to be sure - but we were usually the hit of the party.

Allison - which cousins you talking about??? LOL…

I did shaking of the dust off my shoes at entire neighborhoods where someone I didn’t like lived..

Speaking of shoes. In forth grade I accidentally wore Fidel Zazimbos’ galloshes home from school. I didn’t discover it until the next morning when I was getting ready to go back. I had a little tantrum and would not wear them back to school because Fidel was Catholic.

Rob, it was cousins on my mom’s side. I was pretty young - and I just remember being in her old shelf basement with a half dozen cousins and we looked at each others privates with a flashlight or something…. lol….

lol… that is hysterical.

The only thing I can think of is that back when I was about 14 I played Young Women’s basketball, and before every game we’d recite the YW theme (in unison- like a chant). My bff Ashlee and I were reciting the theme with everyone, but with much more enthusiasm than was necessary - to make it a bit more fun. We were rebuked by the YW president for being disrespectful.

Ashley thank you for using the word “rebuked”.

soooo…off the subject somewhat…Paul and I are currently alone with a 4 year old granddaughter and an 18 month old grandson…We’re in charge while Mom is at the airport picking up their aunt Cici…can anyone share a sacred game that might be appropriate for this evening?? (Since we are in charge I am limiting myself to one glass of wine so my creative juices are not flowing)

Aunt Kathy on July 3rd, 2009 at 10:15 am

Silly Craig: You give the kids the wine first …. then you relax with a glass.

But put it in little cups, and have Paul pass it to them as sacrament. That will make it sacred.

LOL - actually the apple-valium juice worked pretty good.

paul on July 4th, 2009 at 8:06 am

my mom used paragoric…on the rocks. Does anybody know where I could score some?

This is really funny. The scolding by the grandmother putting the girls in their place and reminding them how inferior they are wasn’t particularly funny, but the baptisms were. And I love the other stories.

Rob, you really shook the dirt off your shoes? That’s wonderful. Isn’t it funny the things that we pick out as significant in our upbringing? I wasn’t creative enough to think of doing that, though there are certainly a few houses where it may have been appropriate. :)

Robert on July 5th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Yes, Kristin… I did.. And later as an Elder, I seriously thought of doing it again to see if having the Melchezideck priesthood would cause more of a calamity. My fear that it actually might kept me from it though..

We used to pass the sacrament to each other (Alli weren’t you in on this?) I think I wanted to see what it felt like to be a deacon..good think my Dad never saw this act being performed by a woman. lol.
