It is shocking to learn that there has been a sharp increase in hate crimes against members of the LGBT community, and still not prosecutable as a hate crime in 20 states. The violence perpetrated against out fellow human beings can not be tolerated. Sadly, the violence escalated around the time of the last Presidential Election, the revisiting of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and Prop 8.

The Senate is set to vote any day on legislation that aims to remedy this situation. Would you please consider signing this petition?

And perhaps even contacting your state Senator to urge them to support the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 909)?

Thank You.

That just makes me sick. I can’t believe that 20 states are still note considering it a hate crime. Very, very sad….

Ashley Rae on June 18th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

*not. Sorry.

Aunt Kathy on June 18th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

No problem Ashley, I do that all the time. In fact since I developed arthritis in my hands and my fingers are ugly and crooked, I’ve had to give up sign language. I made too many spelling mistakes!

Consider it signed. When will society finally find it’s humanity?

I see where the state of Maine has hired the Pr firm that worked on California’s prop 8. to combat the proponents of same-sex marriage there. No humanity, no compassion. we just have to keep fighting!

I have signed as well. That violence against the GLBT community is not a hate crime in so many states disgusts me. I simply do not understand.

Craig and I have been the victims of mild hate crimes just a few times. Some in Utah and some here. Like things being thrown at us and threats being made, things like that. It makes me very sad. We just had our youngest son out for a visit with his girl friend. It was absolutely lovely. They both seem so happy. We all had a wonderful time. In fact, Eric told his girlfriend that I have taught him more about being a man than anyone in his life. Andrea and the grand kids are coming for a visit next week, along with my god daughter. We’re going to do the fireworks deal on the green (which they weren’t going to do because of budget cuts until we, and a few other business owners sponsered the deal). This sounds like a regular american family to me. I don’t understand why we’re set apart from the norm. It hurts my heart to think that people who don’t even know me are out there making judgements. Thank you all for validating us as regular people who are just want the same thing as everyone else. we signed

Thank you Paul for sharing this with us.
It hurts my heart too when I hear of you being discriminated against and being threatened. Makes me damn mad actually! Keep smiling and being there for your great kids and grandkids. We are still behind you 100% and then some
xxx

Signed. Like Ashley, I’m astonished that this is not considered a hate crime in 20 states!

Speaking of Hate Crimes…. here’s a link to a story that makes my blood boil:

http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2009/06/30/fort-worth-police-chief-that-faggot-had-it-coming

I’m sick to death of people claiming justification for beating a gay man senseless (in this case nearly to death) and then claim it was because he made advances on them. This is a bald faced lie. As the writer of the article said, gay men in gay bars don’t grope the police when they are raiding it…. just doesn’t happen.

There are links to the mayor and city councilmen you can send messages to if you so wish…

Rob: This is sickening! In my opinion, if people allow this sort of thing to go unpunished, they are guilty of hate themseves! I hope everyone registers their outrage at the links you provided.
Thanks you

Robert on July 5th, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Kathy, Thanks for sending them your outrage. I did the same thing, and got two replies…

Aunt Kathy on July 5th, 2009 at 4:37 pm

Good for you Rob. So far I have heard nothing. BTW: I am reading a book called the Marion Conspiracy by Graham Phillips. It’s examining the role that Mary played in Christianity, along with
the theory that Mary was actually married to one of Herod’s sons, Antipater and that Jesus was not only the divine son of God but actually the literal King of The Jews. Not enough space to really go into an indepth discussion. But wow what a book.
It also posists that Paul was Greek and only had Jewish privelges by his marriage to a Jewish woman. This contradicts anything I have ever read or assumed about Paul. The marriage bit I mean. Spong’s book had me convinced that Paul was a homosexual, of course he could have still been married.

Read tonight about the ‘Kiss in’s’ at temple square… Did anyone attend?

Here’s the story:

Aunt Kathy on July 17th, 2009 at 5:18 am

Hi Rob, This kiss is getting tons of publicity. A second Kiss In is planned. Do you ever check out http://www.sltrib.com., lots of great comments on their threads.
I like the link you provided, but I was unable to successfully e-mail this site to anyone else. Thanks for providing it.

Robert on July 21st, 2009 at 4:57 am

No I don’t ever check the SLTrib… but this was good coverage. Very interesting. I think it was awfully brave for the protestors to show up there and do what they did. The one guy kept on chiming in that the protestors were ‘puppets’ of HRC.. LOL.. And I wonder what he thinks he is???

Aunt Kathy on July 21st, 2009 at 7:07 am

Some of the most vicious, hateful comments on the Trib threads are those from members of the church. Did you know that the “gay agenda” is to take over the USA government? It cracks me up the things people believe! Take care.
